Die Firma Kaindl Energy GmbH errichtet an ihrem Standort in Wals-Siezenheim eine Kraft-Wärme-Kopplungsanlage (KWK) mit einer Brennstoffwärmeleistung von rund 145 MW, einer thermischen Leistung von rund 100 MW und einer elektrischen Leistung von rund 32 MW. Von der produzierten Wärme soll eine größere Menge als Fernwärme (FW) ins Fernwärmenetz der Salzburg AG geliefert werden. Zu diesem Zweck plant die Salzburg AG als Betreiber dieses Netzes eine Wärmeübergabestation samt Netzeinspeisung und Schaltspeicher am Standort Kaindl von max. 55 MW thermischer Übertragungsleistung zu errichten. Ein thermischer Schaltspeicher mit passend auszulegendem Speichervolumens ist vorzusehen, um Laständerungen in Richtung Fernwärmenetz zu beschränken, wie auch Lastsprünge ins Netz oder von diesem Netz ausgleichen zu können. Des Weiteren ist in diesem Zuge die Fernwärmenetzverbindung zwischen FW-Netz West und der neuen Transportleitung der Nord-West-Spange zu schließen.
