Die Planung der Brücke basiert auf dem behördenverbindlichen Massnahmenplan des Kommunalen Gesamtplans Verkehr (KGV) der Gemeinde Muri. Die Rad- und Fusswegverbindung soll die Erschliessung des Langsamverkehrs zwischen dem Bahnhof und dem Muri Dorf verbessern und damit die Nord-Süd-Verbindung stärken. Zum Auftrag gehören sämtliche Arbeiten, die den Stahlbau direkt oder indirekt betreffen. Das Projekt ist als untergeordnetes Teilprojekt in das Gesamtprojekt "Ersatzneubau Unterführung K261 Zürcherstrasse" eingebunden.
